MODIFIED PRODUCTION — Rowdy, Row-Your-Own Glory
Manual-only. .400 Pro Tree. Index racing from 8.50 to 12.00 seconds. Bring a clutch and a sense of humor.
Modified Production is the gear-bangin’ throwback that keeps the crowd on its feet. If it doesn’t have three pedals, it doesn’t qualify. These cars are straight out of the Super Stock and Modified Eliminator glory days of the ’60s and ’70s — real drivers, real clutches, and no help from gizmos. It’s you, your left leg, and the meanest four-speed you can row. Miss a gear and the announcer’s already laughing; hit them all and you’re the hero in the pits.
Modified Production Highlights (Straight from the Rulebook)
- Eligible Cars: Super Stock & Modified Eliminator-style rides from the 1960s and ’70s — period-correct and proud.
- Transmission: Manual only. Must launch with the clutch, by the driver (no automated assist allowed).
- Electronics: No delay boxes, pedal magnets, air/electric shifters, or MSD Grid. Two-step rev limiters are fine for launch control.
- Tree: .400 Pro Tree — fast, fair, and merciless.
- Indexes: AAAA/MP 8.50 • AAA/MP 8.75 • AA/MP 9.00 • A/MP 9.25 • B/MP 9.50 • C/MP 9.75 • D/MP 10.00 • E/MP 10.25 • F/MP 10.50 • G/MP 10.75 • H/MP 11.00 • I/MP 11.25 • J/MP 11.50 • K/MP 11.75 • L/MP 12.00.
- Format: Index ladder based on qualifying. All Bye runs go to the lowest qualifier; ladder sets later Byes. #1 qualifier keeps the Bye until used or eliminated.
- Lane Choice: Goes to the lower qualifier each round. Lowest E.T. writes their position big on the windshield so the starter doesn’t need reading glasses.
- Safety: NHRA ET/MPH rules apply — roll bar/cage and gear per SFI requirements. No shortcuts for stick-shift heroes.
If you can dump the clutch without breaking parts —or your spirit — you’re halfway to legend status.
Bottom line: Modified Production is driver’s racing. Bang the gears, hit your index, and keep the RPMs singing. Miss a shift and you’re in the cheap seats telling stories. Hit them all and you’re signing autographs before the clutch cools.
