NDRL Racers
shine at Bowling Green!
The Holley National Hot Rod Reunion, quite possibly the
largest nostalgia race in the Midwest made its yearly stop to
scenic Beech Bend Raceway Park for everything nostalgia. The
weather is usually very hot and usually wet but that was not
to be as lower temps and blue skies kept the racers cool and
the action moving smoothly on track.
Drivers had plenty of time to get through tech and spend some
time with friends before qualifying began but once it started
the game faces were on and it was time to get serious as the
second stop in the Race Star Wheels-NDRL points series was
underway.
Performance Automotive Racing Engines PRO Gas showed up to the
lanes first and after four rounds it took a dead on lap to
crack into the top 8 with the number one spot and the Dishon
Transmission low qualifier bonus running dead 0 on his E/G
index. Semi final pairings found Jim Hayes advancing over Bob
Mitchell to meet up with Sal Petrulis who advanced over Danny
Hobbs. The final was all Hayes as he left first and led
Petrulis to the stripe taking his second Reunion win.
Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO Comp class showed up with
almost the same efforts as it took a dead 9 lap to break the
top 7 spots with none better than Tommy Cook running dead on
lap to take the top spot and the Dishon Transmission low
qualifier bonus. Semi final pairings found Todd Kapp advancing
on a double break out over Richard Lawson to meet up with Dan
Dishon who advanced on the bye. The final was all Dishon as
Kapps left first and with a red light start giving the win to
Dishon for his first Reunion celebration.
Phenix Industries PRO 7.5, the first of two heads-up classes,
rolled to the ready line next and the home town guys wasted no
time getting to the top. Jarred Bradshaw ripped off a dead 4
pass to find himself in third following Randall Boles who also
was dead 4. NDRL Champion Bo Boles showed the boys who is boss
by running dead on 0 to take the lead and the Dishon
Transmission low qualifier bonus. Semi final pairings found
Bradshaw advancing over Donnie Moore to meet up with R. Boles
who rode the by to the final. The final was all Boles as
Bradshaw turned it red (-.002) to take his first ever Reunion
win.
Ross Racing Engines PRO 7.0, the fastest class in the NDRL
line up, did not fail to disappoint either end it took Michael
Sexton all of one round to run dead on 7 to take the top spot
only to be outdone by Robbie Freels taking the spot with a
dead 6 lap. That celebration only lasted about all of 2
minutes as his father Pat blasted the family GTO down the
track to take the lead with a dead 3 lap also earning the
Dishon Transmission low qualifier bonus. Semi final parings
had Jeffrey Sanborn advancing over Tony Lombardi to meet up
with Don Nave who advanced with the bye. The final was all
Sanborn as he left first leading Nave all the way to the
stripe.
The next stop for the NDRL all stars will be July 12-14 for
the Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk,
Oh.
