The Nostalgia Drag Racing League made its way north to Martin Michigan for the 5th race in the NDRL-IAM Championship season, the Scottrods Hotrod Nationals at US131 Motorsports Park.

With this being the Leagues first stop at the historic ¼ mile strip, the gates were opened on Friday morning for the racers who were greeted with smile and friendly staff that complemented the facility nicely. Running our program along with the Funny Car Nationals, this was destined to be an exciting event for the fans.

Friday night brought us two rounds of qualifying but the night ended early after one round being ran and little did we know at the time but the Saturday qualifier would be called as well with the rains not wanting to quit.

Quick Fuel PRO Gas was first to hit the ¼ mile track and it only took Bob Eaker one lap to drill his C/G index running dead 1 to take the pole and the bye going into round one. He was followed by Canadian favorite Bob Perkins, Phil Stamps, Gary Wildy, and Greg Hillyer.

Hot Heads PRO Comp rolled into the lanes next and Kelly Key took the lead running .02 over her B/C index followed by Chris Nowack, Bret Edwards, Shane Rasler, and D. Snyder. Keys lap netted her the first number one of the season and the bye going into round one.

The points chase for Phenix Industries PRO 7.5 is still anyones game to win and the leaders in class were on their game and ready. Kerry Millet grabbed the number one spot running .05 over to take the lead and getting that bye run to pad his points position followed by Wayne Sears, Bo Boles, Justin Shaffer, and Paul Applebaum.

Ross Racing engines PRO 7.0 drivers are in the same boat and that boat is stocked full of a wide open points chase. Michael Sexton steered his Arias powered FED running .01 over to grab his get out of jail free card and that allowed him to pass GO straight to the second round. Sexton was followed by Steve Walczak, Preston Davis, Sue Christopherson, and Cory Millet.

The rains returned on Saturday and the drivers went immediately into first round only to get rained on again and again ending the event. Per NDRL Rules, the driver in class with the closest to the index pass of the last completed round is deemed the winner of the event and receives the awards that it brings.

Ross Racing Engines PRO 7.0 --Michael Sexton (7.037)
Phenix Industries PRO 7.5—Wayne Sears (7.501)
Hot Heads PRO Comp—Troy Wilson (9.001)
Quick Fuel Technology PRO Gas—Gary Wildy (9.501)
The next stop for the traveling NDRL All Stars will be in scenic Beech Bend, Ky for the ET Genie Fall Finals to be ran during the GoodGuys Nostalgia Nationals October 14-16.
